Violin Teacher
Brenna Carey
Brenna Carey is a classical violinist and violin teacher based in Portland, Oregon. Originating from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Brenna took piano lessons from her grandmother from the age of 6. Less than a year after starting piano lessons, Brenna became enamored with the violin and began Suzuki violin lessons at St. John’s school of Music. When Brenna decided to pursue music professionally, she began taking lessons from esteemed Pedagogue Sally O’Reilly at the University of Minnesota. After receiving her Bachelor’s in violin performance from the University of Minnesota, she pursued her Master’s degree in violin at the renowned Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England. Since Completing her degrees, Brenna has been performing and teaching violin, viola and piano lessons full-time.
Brenna has performed Solo recitals, chamber music concerts, masterclasses and orchestral concerts throughout the US, UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain. In London she was a member of the De Beauvoir string quartet and performed for a Pre-LSO concert in the Barbican Hall. Brenna was awarded a fellowship at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama for excellence in chamber music with the De Beauvoir string quartet.
Brenna enjoys performing music of all genres with others, and often includes improvisation in her performances and teaching. Her passions in teaching are introducing new music to students and helping them find their interests while exposing them to standard violin and piano repertoire, and gamifying musical concepts to teach music theory through play and exploration.
